William Hill is arguably the UK's best known bookmaker, traditionally offline with a large retail presence but recently starting to dominate the online market too.
So, how do they stack up for lotto bettors? The answer, unfortunately, is not good.
Firstly, there’s no welcome offer for lotto customers. Other bookmakers offer welcome offers when you sign up - see sign up offers here.
Secondly, William Hill are universally poor odds for lottery. Their Irish Lotto odds are worse than all bookmakers apart from Ladbrokes. Their 49’s odds are way behind the competition. Their Daily Millions odds are average.
Finally, lottery seems to be on the William Hill site as an afterthought. It’s hidden away on a sub-menu on the sports pages. There’s no app and generally the process of placing a lotto bet is clunky and cumbersome. There’s no estimated returns shown - for example, say you bet £0.25 per line on 3 balls Irish lotto at 610/1 - any idea what you would win? All other bookmakers calculate this for you.
One slightly redeeming feature is the minimum bet - other bookmakers limit the minimum bet to £0.25 or £0.50, William Hill have a minimum bet of £0.01. This is actually quite useful if you want to bet on exotic bets such as Yankees and Canadians.
